Glendronach 12 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Recommended , Glendronach

“Rather good dram with lots of interesting sherry notes. Fruity.”

90
Glendronach 12 year
Glendronach is a very welcomed back distillery of the Speyside, that after a few years mothballed has returned with a range of incredible sherried whiskies.

This 12 years old single malt is a dense, heavily-sherried dram from a distillery now producing again after a six-year layoff. A malt best suited to after-dinner sipping

Very recommended, and if you enjoyed this one, you need to try the 15 years Revival. Simply mindblowing!

This dram has a cooper-like color.

Nose (91): strong. sweet, wood, vanilla, tobacco, spices, a little citrus, floral, fresh.

Palate (91): smooth, oily. sweet, barley, spices, wood, vanilla, peach, grass, nuts.

Finish (87): longer than average. sweet, wood, vanilla, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Glendronach 12 year with 90 points over 100.

Connemara Single Cask Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Recommended , Cooley , Connemara

“ Lots of peat and combustion engines aromas! I love this whiskey!”

92
Connemara Single Cask
A rarer single cask bottling of Connemara.

This is a 13 year old peated Irish whiskey, distilled at Cooley and bottled from a single cask.
On the contrary to the tradition of Scotland, this single cask whiskey isn't bottled at cask strength but at 46%... which I think it is a mistake by the way.

Wonderful irish whiskey nonetheless.

Lot nŗ40 Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Recommended , Lot nŗ40
91
Lot Nŗ40
LOT NO. 40 is made from in a copper alembic still from a mash of small grains and malted rye. The whisky is aged in re-charred American oak barrels. It has an assertiveness that heretofore has been unseen from Canadian whisky. Lot No. 40 is a muscular spirit, well balanced between the spicy/fruity flavor of rye and the vanilla essence of oak. Don’t be fooled by its complexity and superb balance, this is a big, powerful whisky.

An all-time classic, Glenfarclas 25 years old is the epitome of long-aged sherried Speyside, gorgeously smooth and silkily-textured, with rich, generous flavours of fruitcake, hazelnuts, dried fruit and a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. A thoroughly delightful dram.
