“Because you can't buy happiness... but you can buy whisky and that's pretty much the same thing”

St. George English whiskies: Chapter 6, Chapter 9 and Chapter 11

By Miguel in Tasting , Featured , St George

I tasted a very nice St. George English Whisky, well, not a whisky yet in fact, a few years ago when doing a vertical tasting of Ardbeg whiskies. I was really ashtonished by the awesomeness of that spirit and I have been since then willing to taste new whiskies from this distillery.

My chance appeared at The Whisky Show 2012 in London, where English Whisky Co has a shared stand with Amrut showcasing some of their whiskies.

So concentrated drinking I was that I forgot about taking pictures of the stand. Where we were? Ah, right… the whiskies…

I tasted three drams with Andrew Nelstrop, the distillery co MD.: Chapter 6, Chapter 9 and Chapter 11.

The whiskies

English Whisky Co. St George Chapter 6

“Young for my taste, but keep in mind that I tasted this whisky just after three astonishing Karuizawas of more than 20 years”

86
St George Chapter 6
The first official release of proper three year old unpeated single malt whisky from England's St. George's distillery, which has become a phenomenon following recent media coverage.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (84): more than average. honey, floral, citrus. Very new make.

Palate (87): smooth, oily. honey, floral, fruity.

Finish (86): longer than average. honey, fruits.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this St George Chapter 6 with 86 points over 100.

English Whisky Co. St George Chapter 9

“Better than Chapter 6 but I has such great memory of Chapter 4... I enjoyed it more than this Chapter 9”

St George Chapter 9
The fantastic new English whisky is now here! But this is English whisky with a difference! This is the first ever peated English single malt, and it tastes incredible. Its power and balance bely its years. This was distilled in May 2007 and bottled in May 2010.

This dram has a white wine-like color.

Nose (87): more than average. honey, floral, smoke, citrus.

Palate (87): smooth. honey, floral, fruits, wood, smoke.

Finish (88): longer than average. honey, floral.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this St George Chapter 9 with 87 points over 100.

St. George Chapter 11
The first ever heavily peated whisky from the English Whisky Company - the only distillery in England, based in the town of Norfolk.

This dram has a white wine-like color.

Nose (90): more than average. peat, honey, citrus.

Palate (89): powerful, oily. peat, citrus, honey, floral. Very nice taste. Love the way peat plays in this whisky.

Finish (89): longer than average. peat, floral.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this St. George Chapter 11 with 89 points over 100.

Miguel says…

Nice whiskies! I am really sorry chaps that I tasted your whiskies after the three most fantastic sherried monsters (Go to the Karuizawa part )I have ever had. Really it turns you down a bit.

I found Chapter 9 a bit weak, but if you like peated whiskies St. George Chapter 11 does the work.

Looking forward to taste more stuff from English Whisky Co. on the future.
