Aultmore 5 years old Single Cask by Master of Malt

By Miguel in Tasting , Aultmore

“Interesting whisky. Sherry cask? Port Cask? Looks like a very fruity sherried whisky. I like”

Aultmore 5 Year Old - Single Cask (Master of Malt)
This Aultmore from our single cask range is a Speysider that displays an intriguing complexity well beyond its years, whilst still maintaining a citrus-y freshness. This stems from the fact that it was matured in a first-fill sherry. It was distilled on the 12th March 2007, aged for 5 years and bottled in May 2012. A release of 628 bottles.

This dram has a cooper-like color.

Nose (90): more than average. honey, wood, citrus, cinnamon, fruits, salt.

Palate (90): powerful, oily. honey, nuts, fruits, citrus, spices, cinnamon, chocolate.

Finish (90): longer than average. honey, leather, fruits.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Aultmore 5 Year Old - Single Cask (Master of Malt) with 90 points over 100.

That Boutique-y Whiskies: Not only the labels are great

Master of Malt sent me some samples of their new range That Boutique-y and as I happen to have some samples too myself I decided to do a super tasting of this new ramge of whiskies!.
that-boutique-y-batch-1-whiskies

First thing that grab your eye on these whiskies is the precious labels they have created for each of them. And also the fact that the whiskies are bottled at cask strength. Looks like most of them are a vatting of several casks and there is no age statement in any of them but if they are as good as this first batch… :)

That Boutique-y Whisky Company

That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles Scotch Single Malt Whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries like Ardbeg, Macallan or Aberlour in limited batches. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic-book style labels which feature prominent figures from the whisky industry upon them, as well as other little details for you to find!

The whiskies Batch 1

I have tasted several whiskies from the first batch and most of them are already sold out by the time you read this. On their webpage it is available right now a second batch of whiskies.

Whisky Tasting Sessions 2012-07

By Miguel in Featured , Ben Nevis , Glen Garioch , Glen Keith , Bladnoch , Aultmore , Glen Scotia

Almost finishing the year and we are already on the 7th tasting session.

Again six nameless whiskies presented in a stunning box, Jean Marie know how to do the job really.
Pretty bizarre distilleries on this set, but that’s the main reason I joined this tasting sessions; the chance of tasting new different stuff.

Aultmore 9 years old Cigar Malt Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Aultmore

“Great Aultmore with just a few off notes of new make on the nose.”

90
Aultmore 9 year Cigar Malt
A 9 year old Aultmore, bottled for Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask range.

This was selected for its spicy sweetness, which the bottlers wanted for it to be the ultimate cigar malt - a whisky destined for pairing with a cigar.

A nice light sherried whisky. A good one even if you don't smoke.

This dram has a amber-like color.

Nose (89): more than average. honey, toffee, peach, vanilla, citrus, floral. A few notes of new make on a rather good nose.

Palate (91): powerful, oily. honey, smoke, wood, spices, fruits, peach, citrus, tobacco.

Finish (90): longer than average. honey, smoke, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Aultmore 9 year Cigar Malt with 90 points over 100.
