Greenore 8 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Cooley

“Tropical fruits infused bourbon with a citrosy touch. Looks like ten years old bottled at around 45%. Interesting whisky”

86
Greenore 8 year
Greenore Single Grain is a truly unique whiskey as it is the only expression of Irish Single Grain whiskey in the world.

Single Grain whiskeys are very rare as most grain whiskey is normally mixed with Malt whiskeys to make Blended whiskey. Grain whiskey is made from maize/corn and provides a lot of the smoothness people associate with Irish whiskey.

Think of this whiskey as the nose of a bourbon and the taste of irish whiskey. Right! Just delicious.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (86): more than average. citrus, honey, pepper, floral, fruity, papaya.

Palate (87): light, smooth. honey, citrus, wood, pepper, spices, mango, papaya, vanilla, corn.

Finish (85): longer than average. honey, wood, spices, corn.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Greenore 8 year with 86 points over 100.

Connemara Single Cask Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Recommended , Cooley , Connemara

“ Lots of peat and combustion engines aromas! I love this whiskey!”

92
Connemara Single Cask
A rarer single cask bottling of Connemara.

This is a 13 year old peated Irish whiskey, distilled at Cooley and bottled from a single cask.
On the contrary to the tradition of Scotland, this single cask whiskey isn't bottled at cask strength but at 46%... which I think it is a mistake by the way.

Wonderful irish whiskey nonetheless.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Connemara Single Cask with 92 points over 100.

In the Name of the Father by Jim Sheridan

By Miguel in Cooley , Drink & Arts

In the name of truth… In the name of justice… In the name of love.

The movie

In the name of the Father poster
A small time thief from Belfast, Gerry Conlon, is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people while he is in London. Bullied by the British police, he and four of his friends are coerced into confessing their guilt. Gerry’s father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. He spends 15 years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence with the help of a British attorney, Gareth Peirce. Based on a true story

The dram: Cooley’s Connemara

a bottle of Connemara Peated Irish Single Malt Whisky
Thought peat was all about Islay? Think (or perhaps that should be ‘drink’) again. All Islay fans owe it to themselves to check out Connemara from the splendid Cooley distillery.

I found specially good the Connemara Single Cask.

April's orders batch: Holidelays

By Miguel in Orders , Cooley , Kilchoman

Holidays, family, whisky and raining: Nothing is perfect.

April order from The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt

This month I haven’t had time to photo all the bottles received, so finally they did a huge batch that I have finished photographing today.

This batch features some interesting bottles as the “limited release” Mackinlays Shacklenton , Cooley’s Greenore 18 years old, the latest Kilchoman Spring 2011 and the finish Terenpeli whisky.
Also I bought another bunch of miniatures and samples to keep writing about them. As usual I ordered them from Master Of Malt and The Whisky Exchange

Here is the list:

BTW Master of Malt has Mackinlays Shacklenton’s whisky again in stock now: http://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/mackinlays-shackleton-rare-old-highland-malt-whisky/
