Chivas Regal 25 years old: simply fantastic

By Miguel in Tasting , Chivas

“Maybe the best Chivas whisky I have ever had! No, I am serious... this stuff is really awesome”

91
Chivas Regal 25 year
The exclusive new Chivas Regal 25 pays homage to the first ever Chivas Regal blend.

This first Chivas whisky was also a 25 Year Old whisky, which was shipped from Aberdeen, Scotland to New York in 1909 to satisfy the sophisticated palate of American high society. It quickly became the most talked about tipple of distinguished Americans and developed into a global icon.

You are paying a hell more than the whisky is worth just to the beautiful bottle and the awesome box but who can say no to this?!

This dram has a gold-like color.

Nose (91): more than average. honey, citrus, floral, smoke, vanilla.

Palate (92): powerful, oily. honey, oranges, citrus, floral, vanilla, smoke, pepper.

Finish (90): longer than average. honey, peat, vanilla.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Chivas Regal 25 year with 91 points over 100.

This post continue from TWE Whisky Show [Part 3]

The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show 2012 took place at October 6th and 7th and although it has been a great experience it has been a short one. With over 450 whiskies to taste and just barely six hours ahead it was impossible to taste them all.

What I couldn’t taste

This post is just a set of photos of what I couldn’t taste. Sorry, people… I can write about this because I get sad… so great stuff that I had to skip… *sniff*

I visited Compass Box stand for saying hi to Chris and I take a few photos with the people on the show.

Surprised by Chivas Regal 18 years old

By Miguel in Tasting , Chivas

“Not bad at all for a Chivas whisky. I hope they didn't f*** it on the new version they released a few years ago”

87
Chivas Regal 18 year
The premium whisky from Chivas Regal Bros, this 18 years old blended scotch whisky has an important part of Laphroaig in the mix.

Premium aged mix of some of Scotland's finest whiskies with an above-average proportion of malt and an extended ageing period producing a truly fine blend.

Not bad at all for a Chivas whisky, I suggest you to give a try to the single malt Laphroaig or one of the Buchanan's whiskies

This dram has a amber-like color.

Nose (86): more than average. honey, floral, wood, malt, citrus. Not bad.

Palate (88): powerful, oily. peat, honey, spices, floral, wood, citrus, cocoa. Not bad, not bad at all.

Finish (87): longer than average. floral, honey, wood, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Chivas Regal 18 year with 87 points over 100.

Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Chivas

“An incredible whisky from Chivas brothers. Really complex and with a long good finish.”

92
Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21 year Sapphire Flagon
This rich and complex scotch blended whisky from Chivas is aged for 21 years in oak casks before bottling in handcrafted porcelain flagons.

Royal Salute was launched on 2nd June 1953 as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation Day. The name of this exceptional Scotch Whisky comes from the 21 Gun Royal Salute, which is fired as a mark of respect for powerful dignitaries.

At her coronation, the crown of Queen Elizabeth II was set in rubies, sapphires and emeralds. These precious stones remain the inspiration for the colours of Royal Salute's handcrafted flagons, therefore bottle colour may vary.

One of the best Chivas whiskies I have ever tried. If you like this you should consider the overpriced Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

This dram has a cooper-like color.

Nose (91): powerful. baked apples, honey, vanilla, floral, salt, citrus, a little smoke.

Palate (93): smooth, oily, powerful. fruity, spices, honey, smoke, vanilla, a little chocolate.

Finish (92): very long. fruity, wood, spices, honey.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21 year Sapphire Flagon with 92 points over 100.

Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Recommended , Chivas

“A great whisky. Old but fruity, sweet and complex. Enough wood on it but it is not the dominant flavour. Great powerful aroma. I am being distracted by it while I am writing this note. This one will not end up in the sink! :)

Chivas Regal 12 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Chivas
71
Chivas Regal 12 year
Chivas Regal 12 year old is a very popular blend, particularly in America.

And all that is the positive things I can say about this blended scotch. If you are drinking Chivas Regal 12 years old, do yourself a favor and keep reading.

I really don't understand why people keep drinking this when you can get great whiskies like Balvenie 12 years old Doublewood or a Pig's Nose for that price. Really think about it.

This dram has a white-like color.

Nose (68): inexistent. alcohol, fruit, barley. First nosing data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Palate (72): . sweet, honey vanilla, a little wood. overall light. Bouquet data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Finish (72): no finish. honey, vanilla and some wood. Finish length is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Chivas Regal 12 year with 71 points over 100.
