The Whisky Barrel's Burns Malt Exclusive bottlings

The whisky fairy ringed my door a few days ago with a set of exclusive bottles for The Whisky Barrel. A nice set of single cask, cask strength whiskies from Springbank, Tobermory, Linkwood and a stunning Littlemill.

I have reviewed on the past several exclusive whiskies from The Whisky Barrel and they bottle quite fantastic drams for their Burns Malt series, so my expectations for this set of samples is quite high… let’s see if they live to it!

Linkwood 22 years old 1989 Rare Auld Tasting note

Linkwood 22 Year Old 1989 - Rare Auld (Duncan Taylor)
This single malt whisky was distilled at Linkwood distillery in October 1989.

This was aged for 22 years in cask 5040 before bottling by Duncan Taylor for their Rare Auld range in October 2011. A cask strength release of 256 bottles.

An incredible whisky that is a bomb of vanilla and toffee. A must have for any whisky aficionado.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (89): more than average. honey, floral, varnish, vanilla, apples, wood.

Palate (92): smooth, powerful, oily. honey, toffee, floral, citrus, spices, wood, vanilla.

Finish (92): longer than average. honey, floral, vanilla.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Linkwood 22 Year Old 1989 - Rare Auld (Duncan Taylor) with 91 points over 100.

Linkwood 17 years 1990 Signatory Cask Strength Tasting note

Linkwood 17 year Cask Strength Collection
Distilled at Linkwood on the 26th November 1990.

This delicious single malt whisky was matured for 17 years in hogshead number 9726 before bottling on the 15th October 2008.

A single cask release of just 262 bottles, bottled by Signatory for their Cask Strength Collection range of whiskies.

This dram has a white-like color.

Nose (92): inexistent. sweet, tobacco, wood, spices, smoke, a little fruits. First nosing data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Palate (92): . sweet, honey, wood, spices, red fruits, floral. Bouquet data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Finish (92): no finish. honey, wood, spices. Finish length is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Linkwood 17 year Cask Strength Collection with 92 points over 100.
